Remedial System Optimization
GeoTrans has applied remedial system optimization strategies to 25 EPA Fund-lead Superfund sites using an approach adapted from a methodology originally developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The process, referred to as Remedial System Evaluation (RSE), involves a systematic approach to evaluate existing environmental remediation systems to identify opportunities for improved system performance and lower operation and maintenance (O&M) costs. Using a phased-approach with minimal up-front costs, O&M cost reductions of 30% or more have been achieved, representing annual cost saving ranging from $100,000 to more than two million dollars. The benefits to our customers include:
- Identification and evaluation of site-specific O&M cost drivers
- Review and evaluation of contaminant distribution and regulatory drivers
- Evaluation of goals and constraints that impede achieving site-specific closure objectives
- Formulation of alternative scenarios to expedite the site closure process
- Identification of strategies to re-negotiate closure strategies with regulatory agencies.
